I’m going to refer to this story. What annoys me is that it was almost $700k this guy took, and it wasn’t by an audit there in country where the guy was taking the money, it was by an IRS agent well after the fact.
Still, after all this time, they still are not auditing the money and how it’s spent in Iraq and the rest of SWA. Billions are spent and there is not a single receipt to account for any of that money.
How do you think this stimulus package is going to work? The problems in SWA have been around since we walked in, hundreds of millions getting thrown at a project that should not be more than hundreds of thousands or maybe a few million…and everybody knows they can make a killing because there is not an audit process that is effective. The only money that is consistently audited is the USPS people. They get audits constantly and get hammered if even a couple dollars off…..
This stimulus is going to be the same thing. So the fed is beefing up the GAO office to watch this money, when we are talking hundreds of billions of dollars, I guarantee that an equitable percentage will be lost in the vapor.
