People are sheep

I think I could write about this all day, 24x7x365.25 …but it wouldn’t solve the problem.  How we survived as a species is amazing.

He’re another story of probably hundreds of thousands being sheep yesterday.

Unrelated topics for one post

It seems that Pakistan has ordered their military to fire upon U.S. soldiers coming into their country.  At the same time, Pakistan says that they don’t have resources to clean up the Taliban and Al Quaeda in the western part of their country.  Well, if they have 100k+ soldiers in the western half deployed just to shoot at us, shouldn’t they have enough to engage the Taliban?

In a completely different topic, anybody who wants to buy the full Office 2K7 Enterprise for a really good price, all you have to be is a student.  The Site, http://www.microsoft.com/student/discounts/theultimatesteal-us/default.aspx, gives those with a .edu email address a downloadable version of Enterprise for $59.95, and can order the disc for an additional $13.  It’s not quite the steal as if your organization, such as the U.S.Army and Dept. of Homeland Security, has the Home Users Program (HUP), which allows you to purchase the same thing for about $20 with a couple dollars shipping, but with the typical pricetag of over $450 normally, this is a great deal.  On this site, they also offer Visio and Vista Ultimate upgrade for a good price.

You could always just download OpenOffice or use the Google downloader to get StarOffice for free as well…they’re just as good in most respects, good enough for 99.99% of the worlds population.  And it’s free…hmmm

The Day of Unreasonable Requests

I would like to say that I’m not one to complain about much, however, anybody who knows me also knows that I complain about a lot.  Mainly, it deals with people acting like sheep, or just forgetting to engage their brains before making a move.  At work, I don’t have to deal with that much, since I work with a lot of really squared away guys and gals.

But then there’s the one guy.  He’s not a bad guy, he just has no idea of what his requests mean in time and just shear creativity.  Take just 10 minutes ago for instance.  He’s a loaned executive helping with the United Way and Combined Federal Campaign this year.  He called me just well, 11 minutes ago now, and asked if I could take some of the videos off of their website, and make a DVD with them.  And oh yeah, by 5pm tonight, in roughly 45 minutes.  I said, I’ll have to get back to you on that, I don’t have the software to encode DVD’s, and I’m really in the middle of something.  I didn’t mention that this is WAY outside of the scope of my duties…working for another agency and so forth.

I guess overall I only have myself to blame, since I have a way of shitting out damn near impossible stuff in minutes, and not sure how I do it sometimes…but come on now..

Anyways, I explained to him that making a quicktime file into a DVD is a bit more involved than just burning it to a disc, and I don’t have the software for this.  He said, well, what can you do…I said, I’m not sure, let me look.  Then he calls back not 5 minutes later and asks if I had it done yet…:) Really?  Did you really just ask that?

Anyways, thanks to my favorite site in the world, Sourceforge.org, I got DVD Flick.  I downloaded the files, I’m encoding them as we speak (or as I write, you read).  Again, I shit out something annoyingly out of the scope of my job and annoyingly interfering with what I’m doing (creating more damned websites by the way)(another blog about how SharePoint breaks Java) for whatever reason I don’t know.

I just wanted to bitch, and since nobody reads this blog, it’s safe hehe

By the way, in case anybody ever does read this, this is the first posting using ScribeFire, a FF plugin that ties into the blog.

It has a preview option, and apparently it helps knowing a tiny bit of HTML to get this to work…
