Iowa
I have to say that I’m halfway happy with the Iowa caucus. I’m glad to see Obama came out on top, now if he can just keep that up. I’m not so happy about Huckabee, because I would like to see some change in the house.
Anyways, we still have 11 months to go :) A lot can happen. I’ll be happy when election day gets here, to end 2 years of political fun we’ve seen on the tv’s.
Start year 4
I have had this up and running for 3 years now, and a week or so.
I have written about 260 posts that have relatively little information, a lot of complaining and bitching. I have also seemed to gotten away from making people laugh like I did….though that funny stuff was all circumstantial, I couldn’t have made that up.
The past year has been relatively quiet. We bought a new van, and sold the old one in what has to be record time. We bought a house, along with the implements of destruction that come with having a house. We went on a little 10 day vacation of sorts to go camping, where a couple of the kids liked it, one did not, and one learned to crawl because he couldn’t scoot around the floor and grandma and grandpa’s house like he did at home.
Little boy started to walk finally, then run, then crawl up on everything, and left a path of destruction behind him everywhere he went. If he could crawl up it, he’s fallen off of it at least once.
Grace started Kindergarten, and since then has become the smartest girl in the world…she no longer needs mom and dad for anything, other than to get things that she can’t reach. Next year, I’m pretty sure she’ll just hire her own crew because mom and dad complain entirely too much about little things like ‘asking’ and ‘manners’…
I got promoted to E6, finally. With it comes a bill to get rank sewn onto everything.
A couple small accomplishments to note this year, I got both my MCSE and Security+ certifications. One small step, followed by a big bill.
I completed 24 credit hours this year towards my first degree, short of the goal but I did take off two months to get my certifications and took the past 2 months relatively off, only taking one class that required about a nod of my time. I’ll have my AAS with 80-something credits in a couple months, and 3 semesters later have my BAS. (I didn’t know that I could have gotten my AAS until my advisor scheduled out my classes, and I asked what she was doing. It’s really no big deal overall, but it’s at least something to put on a resume I guess)
Jessica started school as well. I’m not exactly sure what degree she’s going after, but it’s a start. She’s also done a lot more with her pictures and her mastery of Photoshop, and hopefully we’ll have a site up and running for her in the near future.
We’ve been both stressed pretty hard. It’s not always easy with 3/4 of the people in the house being students (maybe we should start our own frat house…), two kids that do not care, absolutely don’t care, what mom and dad have to say, as long as we feed them in a timely manner, or not ever getting out to do anything…
Lastly, I have restarted my business back up, though it’s going to be a very slow startup. I’m actually hoping that it doesn’t take off too quickly because I do have a lot on my plate for the next few years. I still have to finish this degree, get the CISSP, get my masters…after which I’m sure I’ll be thoroughly sick of school, but will never really be able to stop in this profession. At least the business is, for all intents and purposes, paying for itself. Not profitable, but not biting our budget either.
What is coming this year. 2 more scheduled semesters, a wedding in June, the kids coming out for the summer, me going to Atlanta to see a buddy for a couple of days, BSG season 4 coming, and prep for a future deployment that will start in Year 5 of this blog, or the beginning of 2009 if you don’t like my North Korean type of marking the annuals. I’ll be putting out my resume as well, since the job I have now may not be here for me after the deployment, and I’d really enjoy having some stability when I come back. Jessica is definitely not like me in regards to just packing up and going to the next job…she just got comfortable here I think, and me personally, I don’t want to move again. I like it here (with exception to drivers here). I like the house we got…and, well, the economy here is pretty strong, with a ton of jobs here with the aviation market and great housing costs.
